Torquay Town closed down for five full seasons from 1914 to 1919. War broke out just before the start of the 1914/15 season and the club decided to fold immediately. Returning servicemen who had previously played for Torquay Town and Babbacombe played some matches at Plainmoor as the "Discharged Soldiers and Sailors Federation" from February 1919 onwards. Some of these games are wrongly listed in the Official Centenary History as Torquay Town matches.
In 1939, war broke out three games into the league season. After one blank Saturday, friendlies started to be played and in October a regional league was started. Results for 1939/40 are included here. At the end of the season, the club closed down for five years.
In the 1945/46 season, Division Three South was divided into two regional leagues and a league cup was also played. The FA Cup returned on a two-legged basis for the only time in its history. Results for 1945/46 are included here.
